Question: Why is the solar controller charger only compatible with the “sealed” lead acid deep cycle batteries? I can’t find any explanation for the purpose of the “Sealed vs Unsealed lead acid battery with the use of any solar powered system.
I have 2 each group 27 deep cycle (new) for my 5th wheel and wanted a solar kit to charge up the batteries while “Boon-Dock camping.

Great information. I recently installed a solar power system in my Sprinter van (which I use for camping) and opted for an AGM lead acid battery (https://www.amazon.com/DEEPCYCLE-SOLAR-ENERGY-STORAGE-BATTERY/dp/B008D5YG3G/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t). With the battery inside the vehicle, what concerns should I have with ventilation? I have a fan/vent installed in the van cieling nearby the battery.

Hi John.great article.i have a project to solo walk across a salt lake in Bolivar south america.A 6 week hike without power,i will have a cart attached to a body harness pulling along water /food equipment. I need a 12 v car battery attached to a solar charger to drip charge the battery as i walk along,day time light 12 hours.temp 21-25 c and a drop to 10-15c at night.I wish to use the cig lighter as a charge unit for my video camera which has a 7.2v cga-d54 lithium-low battery.
I own a solar 12w output would this be enough ?has attachment for the cig and clamps for 12 v battery charging during the day.i plan at night to plug into a charger unit via the deep cell battery any advise would be fab.reg rob

In reply to s houghton. You'd need to buy an inverter and connect it to convert the 12VDC battery power to 230/240VAC.

I’m attempting to build a solar light system for our duck avery. They require extra light hours for laying eggs and also predator control. Your article above has been most helpful for me to understand how to do this. Thanks, Ken.
