A quartet of charming Slovenian medics are heading off to Papua New Guinea (Goodenough Island) on a humanitarian-medical mission. Once there, they will work to educate locals on infectious diseases and provide “healthcare for the commonest illnesses like tuberculosis, skin diseases, and pneumonias and treat tropical ulcers or chronic wounds.” Below are pictures of a Slovenian doctor repairing a broken arm and children’s health cards.

There is little access to electricity, but a lot of sun. In addition to satellite phones, and cameras they are interested in charging an “all-in-one medical gadget with ophthalmoscope/light/otocope/laryngoscope functionality” and a beard trimmer (I guess scissors don’t work?). The gadget uses rechargeable C batteries.

We’ll be providing them with a Fuse 10W Solar Laptop Charger to keep their gear charged up so they can treat patients, keep in touch with their families and keep their personal grooming on schedule!

Good luck and we look forward to the pictures. If you have an upcoming adventure and are looking for free gear, apply here.
