Solar Charging in the Scottish Highlands

Salt Lake City photographer Christine Armbruster knows how to travel. After spending the first half of the summery in Alaska, she recently hiked the 100 mile West Highland Way in Northern Scotland.

She used the Fuse 10W solar laptop charger to keep her Canon 5D Mark II and 2012 MacBook Pro charged.

Here are some of the great photos Christine sent us from the highlands, glens, and moores of Northern Scotland.

Update from Paddle Forward

Our August Gear Winner is paddling down the Mississippi to “create a video documentary about watershed communities and their relationship to the Mighty Mississippi River.” As Paddle Forward makes their way South, they shared some pictures of the Fuse 10W Solar Laptop Charger in action. They also say it “works like magic” which makes us happy.

Circumnavigating Altai Mountains

Dutch Explorer Arita Baaijens recently completed a 1500 km journey on horseback around the Altai Mountain Range in the heart of Central Asia. This was the first known circumnavigation of the range. The journey took her through Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia. She brought along our Fuse 10W Solar Laptop Charger.

According to Arita, the purpose of the expeditions was to “engage with this unique land and its people, for whom the Altai is a living and sacred being. The journey is the first stage in a longer project, which aims to develop ties between the four Altai regions in order to protect this important biodiversity hotspot and sacred land.”

Next up for Arita is a trip to the dessert. We look forward hearing more of her adventures.

Solar Power for Climber Science

The American Climber Science Program uses science to improve conservation efforts in the high mountains of the world. The ACSP spent eleven weeks in Peru this year and climbed over a dozen peaks. According to John All, “We had fifty volunteers from the American Alpine Club, American Universities, Peruvian Universities, and general volunteers from places like England and Australia. Numerous students completed research for undergraduate Honors Theses, Master’s Thesis, and Doctoral Dissertations.”

They brought with them a quiver of Voltaic products including the Fuse 10W Solar Charger, Amp, 16 Watt Kit, and 7 Watt Kit. They used them to keep their MacBooks, GoPros and other cameras charged.

These pictures were from the Llanganuco and Ishinca valleys.

In 2014, American Climber Science will “likely expand to include Aconcagua, Ojos de Salar, and several localities in Nepal.” If you’re a serious climber or environmental scientist, reach out to John All for more information. On September 18th, “ten young adults and a videographer will paddle the Mississippi River from Itasca, MN to New Orleans, LA to create a video documentary about watershed communities and their relationship to the Mighty Mississippi River.” We awarded the Wild River Academy a Fuse 10W Solar Laptop Charger plus camera cradles for their Canon LP-E6 and LP-E8 batteries.

Fuse 10W on China Photography Trip

Artem Nazarov, a professional photographer from Atlanta, recently took a trip to the Yunnan province in China to photograph ethnic minorities. He used our Fuse 10W Solar Laptop Charger to power his MacBook Pro and his Digital SLR camera as many of the areas were without power.
