We see a somewhat skewed version of the telephone handset world here at Voltaic. Our customer base is worldwide but the majority of our users come from North America and Europe. They also tend to be early adopters of technology, so we get a lot of first generation iPhone and Android system buyers.

We enjoyed reading through this report on the top handset manufacturers which gave us detail on volumes and trends in the industry. While we do not get a lot of Nokia users in the States, Nokia still leads the pack by far with a whopping 110 million phones per Quarter. From previous posts, Nokia tends to also have a very good environmental rating and also makes phones that are possible to charge direct from the panel as well as from our batteries.

iPhone and Blackberry, Voltaic customer favorites, are 4th and 5th with about 12-14 million a Quarter.

We’ll probably become a lot more familiar with ZTE as we begin to make lower cost charging solutions available. They ship about 7 million phones a Quarter and are focused on providing low cost phones to Latin America, India and Africa.
