My wife and I are both using the SON 28 Hub, an all-purpose hub dynamo which supports a Sinewave USB port on my stem and a front headlight. It is via the Sinewave that we charge our Voltaic V50s .
It typically takes approximately 30 to 50 miles of riding to charge the V50 completely, but ultimately, it depends on the speed we are riding. The faster we ride, the quicker the charge. We have also used the pass-thru feature to charge our Garmin Bike Computers directly while riding when they have run out of power. The pass-thru feature works flawlessly. We can typically charge our Garmin 530 Bike Computers, a USB rear taillight, and our Samsung Cell Phones each twice, sometimes more, on one V50 charge. We also charge our GoPro cameras and a USB flashlight as needed.
We are now getting ready to ride cross country for our third time. This time from Albany, New York back to our home in Southern California. We are hoping for some of that good New York Spring weather. 🙂
While the system works, I do wish the red 10″ Voltaic USB to USBC cable was a little longer. Two extra inches would make a huge different in our current configuration where we keep the V50 plugged in and stored in our handlebar bags as we ride.
