The Teltonika RUT241 is one of the most popular WiFi routers among our customer base. They are using it to connect WiFi-based IoT devices to the network. We built a demo waterproof system powered by our 50 Watt CORE solar system to test the router’s power consumption and functionality.

The Teltonika RUT241 (we bought ours from Westward Sales) is an industrial-grade 4G LTE cellular router designed for reliable connectivity in IoT and M2M applications. We like the RUT241 for the following reasons:

  • Reliable 4G LTE Connectivity: Provides high-speed internet access even in areas with limited infrastructure
  • Easy Setup and Management: User-friendly interface and remote management capabilities make it simple to configure and maintain
  • Compact: Small form factor (74mm x 83mm x 25mm) allows us to fit it in a small weatherproof box
  • Rugged: Durable construction makes it suitable for deployment in harsh environments. The router operates between 40°F-167°F and within 10 to ~90% relative humidity

Deployed Teltonika RUT241 with CORE Systems

To connect the RUT241 to our CORE battery, we soldered a 4pin ATX power connector to our M16 Bulkhead, and connected the bulkhead to the M16 to M16 extension which was connected to the battery.

We used waterproof SMA connectors to attach the included antennas on the outside of the case.

Power Consumption

We measured 2.1 watts during light usage and 0.5-0.8 watts when idle.

Depending on the application, the daily power consumption could be less than 24 watt hours or closer to 50 watt hours. We would suggest testing power consumption with your use case prior to purchasing a solar system. Once you have that data and your deployment location, you can size the system using our Offgrid Solar System Sizing Tool.

The Voltaic Systems Solution

Voltaic Systems’ CORE solar system is an easy way to power the RUT241.

They provide a turnkey solution for powering remote devices. One of the standout features of the CORE System is its remote monitoring dashboard. This online platform provides real-time data on battery health, charge levels, and system performance. You can access this information from anywhere, allowing you to proactively manage your power supply and identify potential issues before they become critical.
